Philosophy:
Our program is based on a solid
foundation of classical horsemanship and safety. We stress
Dressage which is a systematic, structured, and nature-oriented
education for both the horse and rider. We work towards
understanding and respecting the horse's nature both on the flat and
over fences. The horse depends on us. Our partnership is based
on the rider's trust of his horse and the horse's trust in his rider.
Program:
The riding year is based on a
September through May term. We feel this is important for a
rider to be able to take the time that is required to learn this
sport. All current students get first right of return each year.
New students are encouraged to first attend a Rocking M summer camp to
become familiar with our program. We find the success rate of
honoring the year-long commitment is more successful this way.
Our program teaches, not only
riding on the flat and over fences, but theory of horsemastermanship
and practical practice of taking care of the horses. This helps
students realize their goals in a time-tested systematic way.
Curriculum
Rocking M Stables programs are based on the United States Pony Club (USPC)
standardization.
Pony Club is one of the leading Jr. Equestrian organizations in the
world and is represented in over 30 countries. Many past and present
Olympic champions were "Pony Clubbers".
The USPC curriculum is based on standardized levels with each level
having an oral and ridden exam. Examples of these exams can be seen at
www.Ponyclub.org.
The curriculum will also include a required textbook-The USPC Manual
of Horsemanship-Susan Harris.
Rocking M Stables will schedule fieldtrips to local tack shops and
have guest lectures of veterinarians, farriers, and other local
trainers.
The curriculum will include proficiency in Stable Management, Horse
Care, Anatomy, and First Aid for the Horse.
